Shillong (Meghalaya): Much awaited golden jubilee celebration and amidst the controversy of Chinese excursion in Arunachal Pradesh, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated, dedicated and laid foundation stones of various projects with approximately Rs 2500 crores on Sunday, December 18. PM Modi and his government has given a special attention to the North Eastern states for inclusive growth and development.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is on a day-long visit the North East states and to attend the golden jubilee celebration of North Eastern Council (NEC). The Council came into effect on 7th November 1972 with 7 sisters states of North East as founding members and later Sikkim was added as 8th members. NEC has played pivotal role in socio-economic development of the regions and has been instrumental in successful implementation of various infrastructure projects and development initiatives. The country is moving ahead in all direction and to include North Eastern states as a part of the growth engine; PM Modi dedicated to the nation 4G mobile towers of which more than320 have been completed and around 900 are under construction to boost the telecommunication in the region.
Prime Minister has also inaugurated New Campus of IIM Shillong at Umsawli and Shillong-Diengpasoh Road which will provide better connectivity to the new Shillong satellite township. PM Modi has also inaugurated four other road projects to connect Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya and Manipur. PM also laid foundation for six road projects across the North Eastern states. A foundation stone has also been laid for the Integrated Hospitality and Convention Centre at Tura and Shilling Technology Park Phase-II which will provide opportunities for professionals and create job opportunities.
PM Modi has inaugurated a Spawn Lab at the Mushroom Development Centre in Meghalaya to increase the mushroom spawn production. This laboratory will facilitate the farmers and entrepreneur to learn and develop better skills. An Integrated Beekeeping Development Centre in Meghalaya was also inaugurated by him to improve the livelihood of beekeeping formers through capacity building and technology upgradation. On the side-line, PM inaugurated 21 Hindi Libraries in Mizoram, Manipur, Tripura and Assam.
Chief Minister of Assam Himanta Biswa Sharma, Union HM Amit Shah, Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju, Nagaland Chief Minister Nephiu Rio, Union Tourism Minister Kishan Reddy were among the other dignitaries present on the occasion (Source ANI).
