Yashwant Sinha claims that Uddhav Thackrey was “forced” to back Droupadi Murmu

Riya Gupta, New Delhi

Former Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackrey has been “forced,” according to Yashwant Sinha, the opposition candidate for the presidency, to back Droupadi Murmu of the NDA. Speaking to reporters in Guwahati on the eve of his campaign, Mr. Sinha stated, “I’m not battling a political party, but the power of the Central government.
Uddhav Thackeray, who had previously backed the opposition candidate, switched his allegiance to Ms. Murmu earlier this week at the urging of 16 of his party’s MPs.

According to the current political climate, Mr. Thackeray had stated on Tuesday, “I should not have backed her, but we are not narrow-minded.”
However, his announcement was perceived as an effort to halt the growing rift within his party that cost him his position of power.

In Maharashtra, the alliance government disintegrated last month ahead of the presidential elections as a result of Eknath Shinde’s rebellion. Shinde is now the state’s chief minister. Of the 55 Sena MLAs, 40 had backed Mr. Shinde. At least six members of parliament also seemed to be on the opposing side.

Yashwant Sinha claimed that the misuse of the Enforcement Directorate was to blame for the Centre’s efforts to weaken the opposition ahead of the presidential elections, adding that “by employing agencies, they are taking down elected governments.”

Before the Presidential elections, the Central government is attempting to “break the opposition parties,” according to Mr. Sinha stated .
Regional parties have consistently shown a desire to back Ms. Murmu, but Mr. Sinha sounded optimistic.
“I have the full support of Mamata Banerjee and the Trinamool Congress. I am aware that AAP would shortly reveal its cards. Shiv Sena is the lone group backing the NDA candidate in the opposition camp. We have a lot of opposition support even though the Telangana Rashtra Samithi did not attend the opposition meeting “Sinha also said.

Droupadi Murmu can anticipate receiving more than 60% of the electoral college votes if the parties that have officially endorsed her are included. The list also includes the Janata Dal United of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and the Biju Janata Dal of Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.
